I’ve been in a real programming rut lately but I’m determined to turn that around asap! One of the things that kept me on track and programming constantly was blogging so I’m going to try and post daily like I used to.
Todays post is simply just letting people know that I will be back to blogging about my programming journey.
As always if you want to follow my journey you can subscribe to my blog!
Welcome back to Code Justin!
It’s been about a month since my blog was hacked. I still haven’t heard from the hosting company so any hope of recovering old blog comments is now gone. The good news is that I have finished reposting all my old posts. Though the posts do not have comments, pictures or polls anymore they still have all the original text. Most links to my old posts are now broken so I apologize ahead of time for anyone coming in from a dead link. This time around I will be doing my own backups so I won’t ever lose my database again.
For those that are new to Code Justin, The blog is meant to be a place for developers to share their thoughts and also a place for myself to share my projects/ideas. Previous to the blog being hacked it was getting a steady amount of traffic and was receiving a good amount of comments. The blog was helping newer programmers with all the useful advice from the comments. I want to get Code Justin right back on track and begin building up an active community again!
If you’re curious to know a little bit more about myself, I just turned 19 and I’m an editor/moderator for DZone (a popular developer site). I love to program and I hope to one day make a living out of it. Right now I freelance on the side and I’m also developing my first commercial product.
So if you’ve got an RSS reader or even an internet browser you can subscribe to my blog for updates on my future posts! You never know… you just might like them.
It’s been a few months since the last blog ‘goal’ was hit which was 100 readers. I happen to glance over at my comment total last night and seen I was at 499 approved comments so I figured I would post to the fact the blog is staying on track with its original intention. I had hoped for the blog to become a place of discussion and have users commenting so we could create a good reference point for future programmers with similar questions/debates. Plus I get to show off all my nerdy news =)
So cheers to 500 comments and I can’t wait till the blog hits 1,000!
Ever since my blog hit Google page rank 1 I have been getting comment spam. Now it is getting to the point of serious annoyance. My inbox is filled with comment notifications which over 80% of the comments are spam. Just in the past two days I have deleted over 40 spam comments! I didn’t want to add any anti-spam to my comments because I know I personally get tired of entering spam filter text to post comments on blogs but unfortunately I’m going to have to in order to stop some of this spam. I’m not sure which spam filter I will look into yet but for now I will just use a pre-made one but I might program my own sometime.
Also I plan to release my little python ‘virtual drug dealer’ game tomorrow and was wondering if you guys wanted the source code or not. Was thinking about releasing an .exe along with the .py source code that way linux and mac users can play the game too. Another thing I would like to mention is that I might create some Wordpress plug-ins. So if you guys have any requests for a certain Wordpress plug-in you can suggest it in the comment section below or by contacting me.
I had to upgrade my hosting due to bandwidth limits and I plan to release some free software/games/scripts soon so that means I will have to upgrade my hosting once more. I don’t like having ads on my blog and at first I thought a donate button would be a little tacky. Well weighing the two options and considering I will be releasing some free stuff soon I thought adding a donate button might do just as well revenue wise as ads. So located on the right-hand side of the blog is a donate button which you can use to donate via Paypal or credit/debit cards. The donations will first go to the maintenance costs of the blogs and if I actually have anything over that I will use it to promote the blog.
Thanks and tomorrow you can expect a good conversational post.
Hey guys and gals I’m posting today about the blog. So far CodeJustin has been a hit to me. I have gotten a far greater response to my blog quicker than I had thought. CodeJustin has also reached a new milestone achieving over 50 subscribers today!
Basically what I will be doing is posting some screen shots but mainly what I’m hoping for is some feedback as to what you would like to see on the blog. Do you enjoy the discussion type posts? Do I post too a little or too much about my own programming experiences? Should I make posts that directly refer to code or keep it mainly about general programming? I ask these questions and desire your feedback because CodeJustin isn’t just a blog about me. CodeJustin is a community of developers posting their thoughts and opinions on the topics I create. Over time the blog will turn into a great resource for programmers looking to get opinions on programming topics. That’s why I tend to post discussion-like topics about programming because I know that it’s nice for people to both see and give feedback.
I will soon have to be upgrading my hosting package because it will run out of bandwidth before the end of the month. Which is a good thing seeing all this traffic but at the same time I have been putting more cash than I thought I would into the blog. I’m not really one to have ads on the main page but what all ways do you guys think I could generate a little income from the blog to pay its fees? I have enough money to pay for the blog but it would be nice if it could pay for itself. I was thinking about releasing maybe a few applications with free and pro versions.
Here are some screen shots of various statistics for CodeJustin.

I’m really happy with how diverse the community is here. As you can see from the last two pictures the people viewing the blog are really different. No one Browser or OS holds too many of the views. This allows for great feedback on topics from all kinds of developers.
I want to personally thank all of the active subscribers for taking part in the posts and I can’t wait to reach 100 subscribers!
