Posts Tagged ‘review of a linux free and open source software documentry’
I have recently watched Revolution OS. It is a documentary about the GNU and Linux operating systems. The film really gets into the free software and open source movements. I will say that I really enjoyed the movie! I like documentaries in general but this one really did stand out. The film is 85min long and unlike other computer documentaries this one gets interviews with the actual people behind the story. I don’t want to spoil the movie so I will keep this review short. Don’t let the cover fool you. The movie is definitely about more than just operating systems. The movie is about the movement and people behind free software and open source. I learned more about the philosophy that makes up these ‘business models’ and even though I don’t agree entirely with the free software philosophy this film helped me to respect it. I’m a Windows guy and always have been but I might give Linux a try on another system. The movie also talks a little about FreeBSD.
I give this documentary an 8.5 out of 10. If you like computers than you will more than likely enjoy Revolution OS. I would say rent it if you can (Netflix) but if you can’t than you might look into buying it.
