I have read many online tutorials and ebooks for various programming languages but never really read a physical programming book. Yesterday I was in town and for what ever reason decided to drop by the used book store to see what they had in their PC section. Well I browsed over all their computer books and a few stood out. I narrowed it down to two books which was an old HTML book and an original Active Server Pages (ASP) book. Well the HTML book was $20 and I already have knowledge in HTML so I chose the $4 ASP book. The book is called “ASP in a Nutshell” (2nd edition). It was published in 2000 by O’Reilly and written by Keyton Weissinger. I’ve read about 50 pages so far which haven’t had much code in them but a lot of theory which is very interesting. The book is more or less a reference book but for some odd reason I’m enjoying reading it. Can’t say the same thing for original ASP but that might change by time I finish the book. I hope to make a web application or two from the knowledge I gain. From talking with people that program ASP.net them seem to say it is better to go from ASP to ASP.net than try to learn things the other way around. I’m about to go and read more of the book after this blog post.
So that brings me to the question: What was your first programming book?
You can leave a response in the comment section below. I made this post to get people active in the blog and also show off my sweet $4 ASP book. I will be making some large posts about my programming career choices in the coming days.
